Blue Whiting
Blue Whiting is part of the Cod family of species, although a lot smaller than most of it’s family members. It has a long, narrow body and a silver belly. It can reach sizes upwards of 40 cm in length, but the most common sizes are in the 15-35 cm range.
Blue Whiting is most common in the North and North-East Atlantic ocean, from Greenland to Norway and all the way down to Morocco and into the Mediterranean ocean. Blue whiting feeds mostly on small crustaceans but large individuals also prey on small fish and cephalopods.
While not "oily", Blue Whiting can be described as a fatty fish, especially if caught around the mating season. |
