Cod
Atlantic Cod is popular source of food around the world. It has a mild flavor, low fat content and has a dense but flaky flesh. Cod, as are most species of the Cod family, is a rich source of vitamin A, D and E, as well as the Omega-3 fatty acids.
The species is very common through out the whole of the North Atlantic ocean, from the US and Canada to Greenland, to Norway and down towards France. The Atlantic Cod feeds on molluscs, crabs, starfish, worms, squids and other small fish. The average catch ranges from about 4 to 12 kg. in weight, or about 60-120 cm. in length. There are however, many examples of really large specimens of Cod, with sizes upwards of 40 kg. in weight.
